Provincial Qualifying Exam (PQE) Upon completion of the MAP course, students may qualify to write the Provincial Qualifying Exam (PQE). The PQE consists of 120 multiple-choice questions and is based on the information in the student manuals.
What qualifies me to write the exam?
A passing grade of 70% is required to be eligible for licensing as a Mortgage Associate in Alberta. In order to be permitted to write the PQE, a student must:
§ Have a minimum 70% attendance rate (classroom study program)
§ Complete all chapter quizzes with a 70% grade (online study program)
§ Not have exceeded one year from date of enrolment (both programs)
If these conditions have been met, students will be issued a Exam Authorization Form (or in the case of independent study, will have had the form sent to them with their course materials). Once the exam has been authorized, students may go to one of the exam centres in Alberta to write.
What do I need to take to the exam?
Ø A valid Exam Authorization Form (EAF)
Ø A passport photo
Ø A form of photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc)
Ø VISA or MasterCard to pay the exam fee online. AMEX and PayPal are available at some exam centres. Contact the applicable exam centre for accepted methods of payment.
Ø A non-programmable calculator (optional). Students are NOT permitted to use a real estate or mortgage calculator such as the Canadian Qualifier Calculator.
Please note: you are not able to use your brown book during the exam. You will be provided access to a pdf of pages from the brown book needed to answer the math questions for the purposes of the exam. You will also be provided access to the insurance premium table (below is a screen shot of where you can view the mortgage tables and insurance premium table during the exam).

How much does it cost?
Cost of the PQE is $125 + GST and is payable at the time of testing.
When do I write the exam?
Students have up to one year from enrolment to write the PQE, and re-write, if necessary.

1) Exam Authorization Form (EAF). You will use the same user ID and password that was used on the first attempt at the exam.
2) Passport photo
3) Photo ID for identification verification
4) Visa or MasterCard. AMEX and PayPal are available at some exam centres.
If the second attempt at the PQE is unsuccessful, it will be necessary to re-enrol in the MAP program. |
