Becoming a Mortgage Associate

Program Requirements
In order to obtain a license for mortgage brokerage in Alberta, you will need to successfully complete the Mortgage Associate Program. This program consists of two mandatory courses:
- The Fundamentals of Mortgage Brokerage
- The Practice of Mortgage Brokerage
Successful completion of the program means that:
- You achieve a grade of 70% or higher on the unit quizzes (online students) or you attend at least 90% of the classes (classroom students).
- You achieve a grade of 70% or higher on the Provincial Qualifying Exams (PQEs) for each course. There are TWO Provincial Qualifying Exams. You must pass the Fundamental Course PQE, as well as the Practice Course PQE.

Pre-requisites
The pre-requisites for enrolment into the Mortgage Associates Program are:
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Minimum of Canadian high school diploma or equivalent, or post-secondary diploma or degree.
- Fluent in English.

Registering for the Fundamentals of Mortgage Brokerage Course
The Fundamentals of Mortgage Brokerage Course is the first half of the Mortgage Associates Program. You will need to successfuly complete this course before you are eligible to register in the second half of the course (i.e., The Practice of Mortgage Brokerage Course).
The Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA) administers the Fundamentals Course. For any questions pertaining to pre-requisites, registration and/or content of the Fundamentals Course, please contact RECA directly at:

Registering for the Practice of Mortgage Brokerage Course
The Practice of Mortgage Brokerage Course is the second half of the Mortgage Associates Program. You can register for this course once you have passed the Fundamentals Course.
