My American Mortgage Revelation!

Recently, I was in Chicago for the 98th Annual Mortgage Bankers (MBA) Convention & Expo. It is compromised of members belonging to both the mortgage and real estate industry. It was very enlightening and quite interesting.

I was able to witness a couple of protests, some extremely awkward questions thrown at CEO’s, listen to Jebb Bush and Daniel Axelrod on a panel and meet people that were affected by this pathetic mortgage crisis.

In the general sessions, U.S. bankers started talking about transparency, consumer advocacy and accountability. They need to find a way to bring competence, integrity and ethics back to their trade. They have to work on gaining back consumer trust. Eliminate the many disguised political layers of red tape, committees and organizations committed to confusing their consumer with acronyms. Really?! I am astounded; I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. There are times when I hear people complain about our rules and regulations. Imagine this statistic in our industry, “every two hours and twenty minutes a new regulation is passed!” I will remember exactly what is happening there and say that I am grateful to be part of our Canadian mortgage culture.
