Faiz Khaku
Board Chair
Faiz brings over 25 years of financial services experience, including 15 years with three of Canada’s Big Six banks. With a strong background in mortgages, lending, and credit advisory, he offers deep industry insight to help brokers structure deals with confidence.
As a licensed mortgage broker for more than six years, Faiz is highly regarded in the lending community. In his Director of Sales role at Highclere Capital, he focuses on supporting brokers, providing strategic guidance, and helping them navigate complex files. He’s always happy to connect and collaborate to find the best path forward.

Terry Synyshyn
Vice-Chair
Terry Synyshyn is a Business Development Manager with Manulife Bank in Edmonton and brings over 24 years of experience in financial services, including nine years as a mortgage broker and 12 years as a licensed financial advisor. He has extensive board governance experience, having served for 10 years on the 124 Street Business Improvement Area board in roles including Chair, Vice Chair, and Treasurer.
Passionate about giving back and fostering collaboration, Terry leverages his industry expertise and strong broker relationships to help advance AMBA’s mission and support Alberta’s mortgage community.

Heather Bowie
Treasurer
Heather Bowie is a licensed mortgage broker with Verico iMortgage Solutions (Flare Mortgage Group) in Sherwood Park and holds her Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. Highly regarded for her analytical mindset, organization, and leadership, Heather was recognized in 2024 as BNI Chapter President of the Year for the Alberta North Region.
Her strong financial expertise and commitment to giving back make her an invaluable asset to AMBA as Treasurer.

Kristy-Lynn Maxwell
Director
Kristy-Lynn Maxwell emerged early on as an influential leader in the mortgage industry, recognized for her significant impact across Alberta and nationwide.
Her passion, energy, and dedication have earned her numerous accolades, including Woman of Distinction (2023), four consecutive years as a Woman of Influence, and recognition as a member of CMP’s Global Top 100.
Through her work on multiple boards and committees across Alberta and Canada, Kristy-Lynn remains deeply committed to advancing the industry and supporting those within it.

Director
Anu Reddy is a seasoned mortgage professional with Community Trust, bringing over 20 years of experience in the broker channel. She is passionate about collaboration and industry advancement, leveraging her strategic leadership and project management expertise to support AMBA’s mission. With deep knowledge of the mortgage brokerage landscape and strong industry connections, Anu is committed to giving back and helping shape the association’s future.

Tracy Regier
Director
Tracy Regier is the owner of TR Mortgages (The Mortgage Minds Inc.) in Spruce Grove and has been an AMBA Member since 2020. She serves on AMBA’s Education Committee and chairs the Women of AMBA Committee, and brings extensive leadership experience from multiple volunteer boards, along with expertise in financial literacy and advocacy for women in the industry. Tracy combines strategic thinking and strong organizational skills to help advance AMBA’s mission and support the growth of Alberta’s mortgage community.

Sarah Strauss
Director
With 16 years of experience in the mortgage industry, Sarah Strauss is the driving force behind The Mortgage House Inc., a brokerage she has grown across six provinces. She began her career in 2008 and went on to found The Place to Mortgage, later co-launching The Mortgage House Inc. in 2025 to elevate brokerage leadership and foster a collaborative, training-focused culture.
Sarah is also widely respected for her mentorship, community involvement, and candid, compassionate approach to leadership.

Shawn Jewers
Director
Shawn Jewers is a seasoned mortgage professional with MCAP, based in Edmonton, and has been an AMBA Member since 2007. He brings extensive leadership experience, having served two previous terms on the AMBA Board and three years on the AFR committee, demonstrating his commitment to collaboration and industry advancement.
Shawn advocates for transparency, integrity, and strengthening relationships to ensure the mortgage community thrives in an evolving landscape.

Lisa Mackey
Director
Lisa Mackey is a Regional Sales Manager with TD Bank and has been an active AMBA Member for over three years, regularly attending industry events. She brings strong leadership and collaboration skills, as evidenced by her commitment to professional development and her prior experience serving on the EastPro Basketball board.
Known for her dedication and “can-do” attitude, Lisa is passionate about making a difference and contributing to the growth and success of the mortgage broker community.

AMBA’s governance system is defined in its foundational documents. The Board’s authority is drawn from these documents.
The following references guide how AMBA operates and how Board business is conducted:
- AMBA is a not-for-profit corporation and is regulated by the Societies Act of the Province of Alberta.
- AMBA’s Certificate of Incorporation outlines the corporation’s general aims and objectives and its ownership structure.
- AMBA’s Bylaws describe how the activities and affairs of the corporation are to be transacted. They address corporate matters such as categories, powers and conditions of membership; authorities and terms of directors and officers; meetings of directors; and members’ meetings.
- AMBA’s Governance Policies describe the Board’s preferred and agreed manner of conducting Board business.
- AMBA’s relationship with the real estate sector is key. An understanding of the Real Estate Act of Alberta is also useful.
