AMBA can help. We have also outlined some steps you can take in order to resolve any issues you may have.
How can I check to see if someone has a proper license?
You can check on the status of a Mortgage Professional's license on RECA's website. You can search by an individual's last name or the brokerage name.
What recourse is available if I have a complaint about my mortgage broker?
If your Mortgage Professional is an AMBA member:
Submit your complaint to the AMBA office by fax (403) 685-9682, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling directly (403) 685-9652 or 1-888-452-2652.
You can find out if your mortgage broker is a member with AMBA in good standing by contacting us.
If your mortgage broker is NOT an AMBA member:
Contact the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA). Visit their website www.reca.ca and follow the links under the "Complaints & Outcomes" menu.
Does AMBA deal with complaints I may have towards a Mortgage Broker or Mortgage Associate?
AMBA has an Ethics Committee which will investigate a complaint if the Mortgage Broker or Associate is a member with the association.
Complaints against a non-member can be forwarded to Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA). Please contact their office for more information (403) 228-2954 and toll free 1-888-425-2754.
For AMBA's Ethics Committee to process a complaint it must be received in writing and forwarded to the AMBA office:

Once the written complaint has been received, you will be advised as to whether the Ethics Committee is prepared to investigate the complaint. AMBA will investigate complaints against members who breach our bylaws or code of ethics and who do not provide professional standards of practice. AMBA does not deal with matters of “conduct deserving of sanction”, these complaints fall within the jurisdiction of the Real Estate Council of Alberta.
